This device allows you to connect one toslink optical digital audio source device to two different receiving devices such as a A/V receiver and a television. It will not combine two signals into one.

Toslink cables have a flat side and a round side on the cable. The flat side is regarded as the "top" side and the rounded side as the "bottom" side. Please ensure when inserting the optical cables that the same optical density cables are used e.g OD 5.0mm or 6.0mm and that the "flat" side on the optical cable points towards to top side of the switch. Optical cables click into place when you have a secure connection to ensure the flow of the light signal to pass through correctly. Please ensure that the cable is properly inserted without bending or twisting the cable otherwise you will damage the switch and the optical cable. Push the cables inwards towards the splitter ensuring "flat" side of all cables points to the same side of the splitter until you hear a solid "click". The optical cable plastic mold should be touching the splitter side if the cable is inserted properly and the cable clicks into place. All optical toslink cables on the HDCabling website are 5.0 Optical Density as per cable specifications.

If you need to have two source devices (e.g. XBOX 360 & PS3) to connect into a single optical input on your reciever you can also use this splitter as a auto-switch optical adapter, but only one device (either XBOX 360 or PS3) can be powered on at a time otherwise sound distortion and unexpected results will occur. If both devices will be powered on at the same time then you will need an fiber optical toslink switch. In that case try 3 X 1 Optical Audio Toslink Bi-Directional Manual Switch

This splitter must have all cables connected to match. If you notice all optical cables have a flat side (typically top) and grooved side (typically bottom). Make sure the cables on both inputs and outputs are all lined up. If you have a toslink cable upside down, while another cable is right side up, it will not work.
