This device does not require external power and acquires power directly from HDMI 5volt port power provided on all players / sources and LCD's. The Transmitter / receiver plugs directly into the source device or display and does not need any additional HDMI cables.
Tested 100% with all common HDMI sources such as HDPVR, Apple TV Player, Mvix (HDMI Version), Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, DVD players and Blu-ray Players on the SA market.
HDMI carries 2 channels : TMDS (Video/Audio & sync information) / CAT5e-1 Port on HDMI Extender and DDC (5 volt, HDCP information) / CAT5e-2 Port on HDMI Extender. More info at HDMI Signal Explained.
Due to 100% stability needed on the TMDS / CAT5e-1 port channel for sync information CAT5e or CAT6 Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) is required to ensure no sync losses occur. CAT5e / STP UTP can be used for the DDC / CAT5e-2 port channel, but not recommended at all for HDMI Equipment and STP should be used for a stable installation. Basically you have one cable that is highly critical for video integrity and timing where the opposite cable is not as frequency-dependent, handling only the EDID, HDCP, power, hot plug and ground.
CAT5e Shielded Twisted Pair Cables at
CAT5e Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) 350Mhz ISA/IEC 11801 Cable, CAT7 SSTP Cables at CAT7 SSTP Full Copper Ethernet Cable up to 10Gb/s. CAT5e FTP / STP depending on quality of cable (Full Copper cables) can be installed for resolutions up to 1080p depending on color depth, refresh rates & equipment signal quality, but only recommended up to 720p/1080i. For 1080p transmissions full copper CAT6e FTP / STP or CAT7 SSTP are required.
Please ensure cables are terminated according to 568A or 568B standard as in diagram below depending on CAT5e / CAT6 STP cable type and properly grounded via the ripcord wire inside STP cables. Grounding the cable will also ensure better protection against voltage spikes. STP cables shields better against nearby EMI.
HDMI devices (any source / player, LCD, Plasma etc) have different results when inserting HDMI Repeater devices depending on the equipment you are using (a repeater device is any switch / splitter / extender etc). Compatibility cannot be always guaranteed due to some suppliers using revoked HDCP keys. This is normally seen on older HDTV's and occurs on < 5% of installations. Please ensure to get confirmation from the manufacturer of your source / player / LCD that the specific player or LCD can communicate via a HDMI Repeater (Any switch, digital receiver, amplifier, extender, splitter etc). Some source devices might not allow any HDMI device between itself and the LCD and will only function via a direct HDMI cable to the LCD. Your display or source manufacturer can confirm if their product supports the functions required.
Features :
● CAT5e / CAT6 cabling can fit into smaller areas than HDMI because of the head size of the HDMI cable (From 16 to 19mm) compared to 4-5mm for CAT5e / CAT6 STP Cables.
● One Sender & One Receiver module included.
● Uses CAT5e / CAT6 Shielded Twisted Pair to substitute HDMI cable to achieve long distance transmissions.
● Follow the standard of IEEE-568B when installing and terminating UTP / STP Cables to ensure minimum signal loss over longer distances.
● Transmission distance reaches up to 30 meters (1080P) and 50 meter 1080i / 720p. Transmission distance may vary on type of equipment used, quality of CAT5e / CAT6 cables used, quality of RJ45 shielded connectors and crimping quality of installation of RJ45 connectors.
● Auto-adjustment of feedback, equalization and amplify. Please ensure that 2 of the same length CAT5e / CAT6 STP cables are installed
● Compact size.
● Signaling rates up to 2.25Gbits in support of 1080P display.
● HDCP 1.2 compliant.

Connection and operating instructions :
1. Ensure all Home Entertainment Equipment has been powered off (Including source / player and display device)
2. Connect the HDMI input sources such as:Multichoice HDPVR, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, HD-DVD, STB etc. into the Sender unit via an HDMI to HDMI cable.
3. Connect two CAT-5e / CAT-6 / CAT-7 STP cables to both the outputs of the sender unit and the inputs of the receiver unit using IEEE-568B wiring standard for the CAT cabling.
4. Connect the HDMI output display device such as LCD, Plasma or projector to the receiver unit via a HDMI to HDMI Cable.
5. Power-on LCD & source device (and any other HDMI distribution equipment inbetween to ensure a path exists between source and display to negotiate a HDMI handshake).
In general for Blu-ray HDMI v1.0 is required as a minimum and for PS3 / Xbox 360 HDMI v1.2 is recommended as a minimum. HDMI v1.3 exceeds both HDMI v1.0 and v1.2 specifications.
These Extenders can be cascaded to reach unlimited transmission lengths e.g to double the maximum length specification of the extender connect another HDMI Extender set.
If you need to extend your HDMI signal for less than 20 meters and the cable does not run through conduit (which has limited space for the HDMI connector on a standard cable) we recommend that you use an HDMI Equalizer / Repeater with standard HDMI Cables
Most HDMI Sources / Players / Gaming Consoles use an encryption algorithm called HDCP which can cause signal issues. To troubleshoot audio / video issues (HDMI Handshake problems) regarding HDMI distribution see the problems and best practises guide at http://www.hdcabling.co.za/hdcp_hdmi_handshake_troubleshooting_guidelines.php
Use high quality Surge Protection plugs on your equipment to ensure unstable power from electrical wall socket / electrical surges will have less chance of damaging your equipment. a UPS (Uninterruptible power supply) is highly recommended in all areas of your home or business where LCD's, players and HDMI Equipment is installed.
No HDMI / CAT5e / CAT6 cables are included with this product and must be purchased separately.
